    WOWEE - KAZOWEE!!!!!

A lot has happened since I updated last time, so I'm just going to start with the most recent: college.

Right.  So, I came to Vanderbilt early due to Band Camp.  I am in the Spirit of Gold Vanderbilt Marching Band.  I have to admit that it is an amazing experience.  Though we have the largest Vandeerbilt band of all time, topping 210 members, there is a closeness, a bond, shared by us all.  I have an awesome uniform with an awesome hat and plume of doom.  Our first home game, we are performing a George Gershwin show complete with Strike up the Band, I've Got Rhythm, An American in Paris, and Rhapsody in Blue.  I'm pumped.  So should everyone planning on coming to see it.

I'm only taking 4 classes: Intermediate Spanish, Calculus 150A (kicking my ass at the moment), Theater 115F (Writing Seminar Just like theatre arts), and RLST 294 The Nonviolent Struggle.  I'm loving college.  All of the courses and professors are amazing.  Short synopsis:

Intermediate Spanish is just like Spanish in High School except I have it every day.  I see progress in the direction of proficiency.

Calculus is hard right now.  Technically I have AP credit for the course that I am taking but I was scared to start out above where I am capable.  This was a good choice, for this course is very difficult.  I've forgotten many things.  We have just covered formal limits with lowercase delta and epsilon.  We didn't learn that in High school much.  I also realize that my factoring abilities are below par.  Oh, and my professor is a Romanian Graduate Student (awesome) who really knows his math and is capable of going much faster than I am able.

Theater class is super-cool.  It's technically my freshman writing seminar.  There are 15 students in the class.  We are required to see 5 shows: On Golden Pond, The Shakespeare Stealer, The Shape of Things, Wit's End, and last but not least, THE LION KING!!!!!  I'm pumped.  We also have to in groups of 5, put on our own little production.  There is one playwright, 2 actors, a director and a designer.  I'm the Playwright.  Good luck to me.  I've never in my life tried to write a quality play.

The Nonviolent Struggle class is amazing.  It's every Tuesday from 6:10 to 9:00.  It's like a history course covering the success of nonviolence against oppression in the 20th century.  It's taught by this reverend that went to Vanderbilt and was thrown out for his involvement in the Nashville sit-ins back in the 1960s.  It's so cool.  I'm learning so much.  If you're a grad student in the class, you have to write a 25-35 page final paper.  Mine only has to be 10-15.  Thank God.

    Let's see...

The food is good.  We have a Quizno's on campus that is on our Meal Plan.  Go there, swipe the card and get a dinner.  's as easy as that.

Um...I'm about done talking up a storm.  No one will read this anyway because it's on xanga, but it's more for my own health.

    I miss everybody.

    Love.

    Go Dores!!!

    Sincerely,

    David to the L. Cannon

Well, it's been 364 days since I joined Xanga, so I have decided to update a little bit.  I know, I haven't updated in nearly one millenium.  I apologize to the last remaining xanga fans who have stuck it out.

So, it's Spring Break.  My friends are all elsewhere, enjoying what the USA and its closeby countries have to offer.  Robby-Atlanta, Georgia, Rebekah-Destin, Florida, Holly-Cruise, Gulf of Mexico.

So, 3rd nine weeks is over.  All A's, 1 B(Spanish-89.4%), and 1 C(English-I'm disappointed too).  I suck.  I need to care more about school.  If I committed myself to learning and put aside all the fun that the senior year has to offer, I would have the best grades in the mundo.

    Well, let's see...

Today I received an acceptance letter from Vanderbilt University, my college of choice from the time I was a tiny Tater Tot.  I'll hear from Yale on March 30.  If I get accepted there, I will take a little trip to visit New Haven and the Yale campus.  From there, I will decide my destiny as a college student.  By the way, I was accepted to UCA last week, just in case.  So if I don't get accepted to Yale (which is very likely) and Vanderbilt explodes in a blaze of glory, I've got my backup ready.

    Anywho....

My family's fun Spring Break has consisted thus far of purchasing the first season of Lost on DVD.  We're over halfway through it.  It was worth the cost.  We've spent a lot of time together, even if it is in front of the television.

I finished Jane Eyre - the novel - this morning.  We've already taken the essay test over it but I didn't complete the novel, so I have now done so.  It was good.  I give myself props for having the fortitude to finish its 461 extremely lengthy and description-filled pages.

    OK.

Lots of stuff has happened in the absence of xanga entrying, but if you don't know, then you'll just have to call me and say, "what ya been up to?"

    That's all.

    Have a good life, all!!!

Oh my Lord, I have not updated in approximately 1 month and 11 days.  See, I told you I'd update within the next 2 months!!!

Well I could probably write a novel if I wrote about everything that has happened since the 2nd of November.  SO, I'll try to name some of the high points.  If I miss some, don't be angry, our shared memory won't be the only one I've forgotten.

Well, we (the cast of Little Shop) performed and that's all over.  We all went to the Russellville tourney and Gavin and I worked on improv for the first time ever -- advancing to semis and getting third there.  Not bad for a first time round.

Robby and I tried to organize the doomed "Keystone Visit" where the 9th graders were supposed to come visit west campus.  Only half of them were able to come and that's final.  No rearrangements.  Oh well, my own brother missed it because somehow busses weren't scheduled for his day.

Hmmm...Thanksgiving occurred sometime in there.  Stephanie came up from LA (Louisiana) and we hanged out.

Gavin had a shin-dig (visualize that) at his house and I fell down the stairs, a couple of times.  Not from drunkenness mind you.

I've seen these movies: Rent, The Chronicles of Narnia, Harry Flippin' Potter, The Fog, and probably others that I just can't remember.

We (NLR) put together a speech tourney.

I took both the SAT and the ACT.  I'm nervous about both.  Both times that I tried to type both, I accidentally typed bothe first.

I sent in the first half of Vanderbilt's application and am in the process of completing the second.

I think I've brought up most of my grades to As and Bs.  I thoroughly raped the IB Psychology semester exam.

I am at the moment putting together a trip to see Beauty and the Beast at the Rep.  There are about 50 people on the list.  I have to handle mucho amounts of money and coordinate lots of communication in order to accomplish this.  I feel extremely responsible.  It's ok though.  The real David is taking a vacation at the moment and will return as soon as the show has been seen.

The Wiz tryouts are when we get back and I'm pretty excited.

I think I'm getting an iPod for Christ's birthday.  Why am I getting presents on his birthday?  Someone please explain that to me.

NOTICE:  Please refrain from buying, stealing, or borrowing me a gift for Christmas because it will be a miracle if you EVER receive one in return.  It's nothing against any of you, it's just that I'm poor, don't have a job, and don't want to waste my mom's money getting you something that won't mean anything to you.  Heck, you won't even remember what I've gotten you by the time next Christmas rolls around.  "But it's true, isn't it?" -direct quote from Audrey II, himself.

Whatever I've left out, I'll add in a later entry if you bring it to my attention.  Leave comments and Epoops and I might update sometime within the next 2 months.

    Feliz Navidad

Did you realize that the word Navidad contains all 5 letters in my name.  Actually, let me simplify that:  One can rearrange the last 5 letters of the word, "navidad," to spell my name, "david."  But only if you don't want to capitalize my name.

    Happy Holidays!!!!!!!!!

    Imani.

    Adios.  (to God).

So, 'sbeen a while since I last updated, which means that I may never get eprops again, but here goes...

I went to my first speech tournament ever.  Central High.   I'm so glad I don't go to that school.  Anyway, Friday night we performed our wonderful Words and Music, Jesus Christ, Superstar, much to our detriment seeing as the judges couldn't see a good musical if it did a tap dance on their laps.  In other words, we didn't place, meaning that we didn't get 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place.  I'm not going to talk much about it.  But our reader's theaters did well, East and West.  2nd and 3rd respectively.

Saturday, Robby and I performed our duet, breaking through prelims and getting stomped in semis.  I hear it's hard to break, so I'm enthralled.

So, next tournament, I think Robby and I will be re-performing a new, improved (same ol') Greater Tuna and Gavin and I will be doing improv.  We're also doing the Elvis inspired All Shook Up for our Words and Music.  Should be interesting.

So, Little Shop of Horrors is under two weeks away.  I'm stressin'.  Not that I even need to memorize my lines, since I'm gonna be backstage.  But I don't want this show to look like crap.  I hope we can pull it together.  We always do though, so no  worries.  Anyone out there who wants to see it, come on down to NLRHS-WEST on Nov. 17 and 19 at 7 o'clock.  You will enjoy.

I got a D on my last chemistry test.  I still don't understand Net Ionic Equations and have yet to fully memorize my polyatomic ions and solubility rules.  But that's okay, because now we're moving right on the thermochemistry and vaporization and fusion and ethalpy.  Please someone explain to me the difference between Heat and Temperature.  And while you're at it, explain the difference between weight and mass.  It's a conspiracy.  I swear mass is weight, but all of my science teachers ever have denied it.

    Moving on...

I really need to get on the ball.  I don't do any homework anymore.  My grades are gonna suck.  And I don't need a midyear report with B's and C's.  I also need to retake the ACT and SAT.  Y tambiĆ©n, necesito aplicar a los universidades.  I missed Early Decision I and I'm disappointed with myself.  Maybe I'll get into college in spite of myself.

I've got a book recommendation:  Alas, Babylon.  I've read a part of it to my brother.  It's about nuclear war on a personal level, pretty much worth reading.  I've got some other recommendations:  The Source and Dune.  When I have time, I will finish reading all of them.

I don't know why I just wrote that about books.  Well, maybe you bibliophiles will appreciate my contribution.

Sad things:  I didn't win an ACE award, I'm not a Junior Rotarian, and I got "excessive talking" on my report card from Mrs. Priester.

Okay.  I'm done for now.  I promise to update within the next 2 months.

    Bye.

About Me

  • I am a Band Nerd, a Drama Geek, a laid-back student, and ambitious as any person on my block. I'm a stuck up jerk sometimes and I'm sorry. Hopefully I make up for it with my wit of steel and armor of good-stuff. I really slack as a student and I don't do enough housework, pero se un poco de espanol (pardon: I don't know how to do accents or enyays).
